It’s been a heck of a week in the world of Spell Defense. Words have been found. Goblins have been vanquished. And updates have been requested. I’ve taken your feedback and tried to address the root cause of the most commonly requested features or bugs. Here’s a list of everything dropping in the 1.1 patch set to drop in the next day or so.
Free Access to Merchant Spells
Going through the game, you’ll unlock plenty of cool spells to destroy the forces of evil. Now, your spell book will contain a special spell that unlocks one of the Merchant’s wacky spells. This spell will change every day, giving you an ability to conjure a spaceship or hit goblins with a car even if you never buy one of the extra spell packs.
Better Letter Selection
Occasionally players would get scrolls with nothing but consonants, or all consonants and maybe a “y”. Every time the game picks new letters for the board, now, it does a better job of making sure that there are valid words to spell and that there’s a good mix of consonants and vowels to give you lots of spelling options.
Health Visibility
It could be a challenge to see Hero health, especially on smaller screens. We’ve played around with some of the size, opacity, and color contrast of elements in the health globes that hopefully improve visibility.
Smoother Loading Screen
The progress bar for the level loading screen runs a bit more smoothly, and makes it easier to read the game tips before the level actually begins.
Explicit Tutorial On Hero Resurrection
Some players had trouble figuring out that you could resurrect heroes when they die in battle. Now, a little popup appears in-game explaining the mechanic the very first time a hero dies. Don’t worry, it’s only the first time - not every time a hero dies.
Dead Heroes Can’t Run, Anymore
As fun as it is to have a zombie on your team, there were rare instances where your dead wizard or hero could still move around as though they were alive. They wouldn’t be able to “do” anything and the game would get stuck. Now, your characters follow the wisdom of Jimmy’s Chicken Shack… When You Die, You’re Dead.
Swipe To Change Levels
Yeah, there are some buttons on the world map that you can tap to change levels, but on mobile, it’s probably a bit more natural to just swipe left or right. Now, you have the option to do either.
Spell Effects No Longer Play During Cutscenes
Spells with lingering effects/animations could bleed into cutscenes at the end of certain levels. While a neat little effect, it wasn’t what we were going for. Now, spells should clean themselves up when you finish the level so you can watch the scenes in all of their fart-humor majesty.
